The Medical Narration Genre

You have to make sure that the science is correct, described with the proper level of depth, and with clarity. Your tone needs to meet your audience, whether medical student, healthcare investor, or concerned parent. And you have to address all these tasks in a way that is engaging and will be retained by your listeners, while conveying any necessary empathy.

You work hard writing your medical narrations.

Wouldn't it be such a waste…

to go to all that work with all your skill...only to have your words delivered in a way that is emotionally flat, doesn't convey the sense of complex ideas, speaks down to your audience, or just can't accurately pronounce advanced terminology?

Medical narration requires very complex skills

from the person performing the voice over, which all have to be adjusted and balanced differently for each script. The more they understand the concepts involved, the better they can interpret your text and make it live. If they actually enjoy what they are reading, your listeners are more likely to stay locked in.

I've always had a fascination with science, both the method and the body of knowledge that method has developed. As a child, I could tell you the complete taxonomies of most of the creatures in my good-sized seashell collection.

As a university student I got my degreein psychology, but had to minor in biology: partly to get a Bachelor of Science, but also out of deep personal interest. I loved learning all the most arcane details of DNA replication, and the life cycles of microorganisms. As an adult, I was certified as a Childbirth Educator, and became familiar with medical vocabulary.

I truly delight in medical narration, and that's less common than you might think. I always learn something new, outside my daily experience. Not only will I articulate your terminology well, but I will even understand your copy, even if it means a little research. That comprehension will give it life in a way that mere “pretty” or “authoritative” readings just can’t.
